By 'Approaching Sayonara' are you hinting that your book is going to be like that hugely successful 1950's James Michener novel about American servicemen in Japan?

Nope, no hints. Just getting close to saying goodbye to the book at just about the same time I'll be saying goodbye to Japan. I didn't read that Michener novel and didn't know it was successful, but sure I'd love for my book to be hugely successful. I'll settle for finished for right now though. ;-)

Thanks Eric! I'll be ready to be done with it soon, I think. It sort of feels just right, as I'm getting ready to leave Japan to be finishing the novel I've been writing since the first month I moved here.

Making time to write is difficult. I try to break it up into smaller amounts of time so I don't feel so chained to the desk. If I do it that way, I feel more free and leisurely about it. And more often than not will end up staying longer than I told myself I had to anyway. Usually I only expect myself to sit down for a couple of hours a day and write, and they don't have to be all at the same time. Sometimes I'll break it up into fifteen minutes here, an hour there, a half hour, etc. Usually they're forty-five minute or hour long runs, though.

How's your cold?

Thanks guys, and the cold, Maureen, I am beginning to suspect it's a reaction to all the kerosene burning in my life at this point. At the schools and in my own apartment to keep warm. When I am out in the fresh air, I feel fine. When I am inside with kersone burners I am clogged up and headachey and feel like it's the flu. I'm hoping it warms up and becomes spring fast so these burners can all be put away.
