Screw them all!

I'm sick of hearing who has control and who has played what really smart hand in such and such a battle. I want people who give a damn about my country, who are actually concerned about what's going on and not on some damned chess match. I want someone who is willing to ride the truth into the center of the country. Won't someone do that? I look at owls and toads these days and wonder, "Is there a prince in there?"

Here here!

What's amazing to me is the extent to which the media covers the political game, rather than the substance of the debate. The story you link to is an excellent example this; it's all about the polls. After the State of the Union address, all we heard is, "How will this play to the voters in the South? How will this play to the laid-off Ford workers?" Etcetera ad nauseum.

It's a goddamn game show.

Exactly, Nathan. The media covers the game rather than the substance of the debate, and the problem with the stance they take is that it reinforces a very wrong idea that we, as common people, are simply spectators to what politicians are doing with our country. This sort of language and point of view, after a while, can create the illusion that an ordinary person has nothing to do with what gets decided in our country, but we can affect the directions things are going. That's the thing, and so many people have forgotten this. We're no longer participants in our own lives.
