One for Sorrow

I've been hinting about this in several recent entries to this journal and was just waiting a bit to make sure everything was pretty much finalized. So the big news I've been wanting to share for about the past two and a half months is that my first novel, One for Sorrow, has been bought by Juliet Ulman at Bantam Books. I'm not sure of a publication date yet, but as soon as I know, I'll post it here.

So that's it, the exciting news I've been withholding (unless you were one of the several hundred people I emailed about it in private of course. Ahem.)

And for fun, here's a mock design of the book my friend Amber van Dyk did of One for Sorrow when I read from it for the first time at Wiscon a while back.

Ah, I knew it was something like this. I spoke with Uncle Rick and even Sharyn November about you, trying to discern where your work had landed.

I'm very excited (though you had supremely fooled me with the cover - I thought this had all happened ages ago and any month now we would find ONE FOR SORROROW on the shelves).

I look forward to buying a copy.

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited. Dave, I like this cover too, though I think the boy could be a bit older. Other than that, I think it captures the look I'd pick if writers had any input into the design of their own books. Fortunately I really like the covers Bantam's been doing for other books lately, so I think I'm in good hands. But if anyone in the design dept. *happens* to be reading this, I would also choose uneven paper, and since it'll be a trade paperback I'd also make the covers have flaps, so you could put an author photo on the rear flap and you know, I'm kind of cute, I'm sure that'd sell several hundred copies alone.

Unfortunately I am being entirely serious here. ;-)

Thanks again!

Hehe, Haddayr is cute.

And John, I just heard about your anthology Juliet bought too. What a cool idea, the winning spelling bee words being inspiration for stories. So congratulations back atcha!

Sultry and slightly shocking come-hither could work. Unfortunately I'm not as sultry and come hither at 30 as Mr. Capote was at 23.
