Just got confirmation that my work visa application has been approved in Japan.  Now I wait for their paperwork to reach me, and then I have to drive to the Japanese Consulate in Detroit, the one nearest to me, and have them process the paperwork and make me an actual visa.

I've been on my last nerve the past week or so waiting for all this to go down, and now that it is, I'm relieved and also a bit freaked out.  Am I really going over there for a year, maybe even two??  Obviously there is some other person making these decisions for me.

Isn't it strange, that feeling when the part of you making things happen is disconnected from the part of you that's sitting there going "Huh? Wait -- I don't know about this..."

Sometimes I have to consciously pry my psyche apart just to get anything done, and play myself like a puppet.

But yes: you're In Motion now, baby! Let it carry you, see where it takes you. It will definitely be interesting.

Yep, that's exactly how it feels, Karen. Weird weird weird. I guess I'll just hang on for the ride. ;-)

I thought Hobbes was making all your decisions. :)

That's true. I forget how he crawls up inside my head sometimes when I'm sleeping and becomes a mad puppeteer.

I'd watch out -- he told me he was learning to drive. Said something about wanting to go see a creepydeadpeoplesexhouse.

Consulate, schmonsulate! Back in my day, we just worked off the books for three months while the paperwork was being processed, then went to Korea to get the visa. :)

Congrats! You’re going to have a blast. (Occasionally you’ll be miserable, because that is the way of things, but, on balance, you’ll have a blast.)

If your cat is making all your decisions for you, how come you're scared of mice?

Hey Dave, haha, back in your day sounds much easier actually. Just got the visa today actually, after a long day of waiting. I can't wait. I hope it's as much a blast as you say. I think it will be (even with those miserable times thrown in for good measure).

And Bowes, my cat is afraid of mice too. So there.
