Busy, busy. I'm applying for Phd programs, teaching my fool head off, and trying to finish the novel. Between or during all of these things, I've been listening to a lot of Sade and Dido. Dido's new album, Life For Rent, is absolutely sexilicious. All but one track are good, and five or six tracks are awesome. She's got a great synthesized sound that and her tracks move through several different genres of music, but her voice and lyrics are always her own, the music is the platform for her in that way, which is just really nice. I have a friend who gets crushes on celebrities often, and if I had a crush on someone celebratory I'd have to say it's Dido. She's so damned cute!
The people at Descant sent me my contributor's copy of the Speculative Literature issue that they put out this month, and it's really nice. The cool thing about Descant is that they incorporate poetry, art, photography, fiction, and plays, all in one place, on a certain theme. So it's this really interesting compilation of different artistic forms approaching ideas of a speculative genre theme. I like that. Most often, in genre publications, you get fiction and poetry, an occasional article, and that's it. It's nice to have interesting art and photography, and plays as well. At least for a change.
