Much agreed with my compadre, Barth, about the ending of Return of the King not being long enough. I wanted to see all the resolutions actually. Just saw it tonight, so I'm not really going to say much other than I really did enjoy it.

And I fell in love with Eowyn. Now that is one fine woman. When she chopped that dragon's head off and looked surprised herself, I nearly jumped out of my seat with adoration. Miranda Otto, the actress, really inhabited a character that could have been completely backgrounded, and made her the star of the show for me.

Some people like her writing, others don't, just like anyone. But I've always had a passion for almost anything Jeanette Winterson has written. Her novels feel more like poetry than prose, in many ways, and she's always searching for new forms and means of telling stories. Sometimes she fails, more often I think she outdoes herself. In any case, she also has a website, and she keeps a monthly letter on it. Here's a link to November, 2003. I love this quote:

We don’t trust words. We don’t trust language. The degraded, simplistic and cynical language that surrounds us, is no friend of the heart.
